Carissa Templeton, Officiant

Brooklynite since: 2003 (My mom grew up here and laughs about how hard she worked to get out of Brooklyn and how hard we work to stay!)

Favorite Brooklyn spots: Anywhere I can bike with our toddler on board, our Ditmas Park neighborhood,  Prospect Park Farmers’ Market, Blue Marble ice cream, Spumoni Gardens, Coney Island

Three words my closest friends would use to describe me: Reliable, honest, intuitive

What I love about what I do: I feel honored that couples trust me with their dreams, concerns, plans and ideas for their wedding ceremony. I love hearing the story of each couple: how they met, how they figured out that they were going to spend their lives together, hearing about how they live side by side and complement each other. I love how many ideas for ceremonies my couples have come up with on their own, how creative couples can get with and without my help. I reach out to people the couple knows, and that’s always a really fun part: getting emails from friends and family about a couple I am getting to know really rounds out the story for me and then for the guests at the wedding.  I also love how connected I feel to Brooklyn and NYC: the parks, the hotels, venues.  Weddings in this area are second to none and this area has an energy unlike anywhere in the world.

Five things you don’t know about me:  I met my husband, Kurt, on a Chinatown bus from NY to Boston eight years ago. I have a 13-year-old kitty cat named Frank. The place I most always want to be is camping on Martha’s Vineyard. We were married at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. I can hit a wiffle ball further than you’d expect.

Five jobs I had before I was a wedding professional: Family partner coordinator for Habitat for Humanity, waitress, law student; art therapist at a shelter for homeless teen moms; helping to run a camp for kids with HIV for 6 years
